The University of Calcutta is one of the most prestigious University In India. It was located in College Street, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. CU established on 24 January 1857. It is the first institution in South Asia to be established as a multidisciplinary and secular Western style university.

The University of Calcutta was recognized by the University Grants Commission and National Assessment and Accreditation Council. It has its central campus in College Street (Ashutosh Shiksha Prangan). Other campuses are in Rajabazar (Rashbehari Shiksha Prangan), Ballygunge (Taraknath Palit Shiksha Prangan), Alipore (Sahid Khudiram Siksha Prangan), Hazra and South Sinthi.

India Today Magazine has ranked 2nd Top India University of 2013 on 3rd June, 2013. The CU Affiliated with UGC,  AICTE, AIU, and NCTE.

Calcutta University offers the graduate and post graduate degrees, M Phil, Ph D Programes and Other Certificate courses.

The University has 65 departments organized into eight faculties:

  • Faculty Council for Post-Graduate studies in Arts
  • Faculty Council for Post-Graduate studies in Commerce, Social Welfare & Business Management 
  • Faculty Council for Post-Graduate studies in Education, Journalism & Library Science
  • Faculty Council for Post-Graduate studies in Engineering & Technology
  • Faculty Council for Post-Graduate studies in Fine Arts, Music and Home Science
  • Faculty Council for Post-Graduate studies in Law
  • Faculty Council for Post-Graduate studies in Science

Calcutta University Admission2013-14
The admission procedure for University of Calcutta has begun on July 8, 2013 for various courses including UG, PG, M Phil, Ph d, and Other diploma courses.

Important Instructions
  1. Selection will be made as per university admission rules.
  2. The list of eligible candidates for admission be made on the basis of marks and marks obtained by the students of affiliated colleges and the autonomous colleges under this University will be considered at par with each other.
  3. Admission will be made strictly on basis of merit, taking preference into consideration.
  4. Selection lists will be displayed on the notice board.
  5. Percentage of cut off marks for entrance test and any other criteria will be notified after receiving the application form.
  6. Selection will be made strictly in order of merit on the basis of percentage of marks for 60% of seats for C.U. students and rest 40% of seats on the basis of subject wise Entrance Test for Non C.U.
Calcutta Unversity Ph D Admission
The CU invites application from eligible candidates to the Ph D in various subject..

Eligiblilty Criteria:
Postgraduate degree from any UGC recognized University at least 55% Marks. If you have already passed M Phil/ NET/ SET or equivalent, you can directly appear for the interview without attending the written examination.

You will be given admission based on your performance in the written test and interview conducted by the university. The written test will be of 100 marks for which candidates need to score 50% to qualify and interview will be conducted for candidates who are successful in Written Test.

Calcutta University Results 2013-14
Calcutta University examination will be conducted in three parts: Part -I, Part –II and Part-III. Part- I Examination will conduct usually in June month, Part-II Examination to be held normally in May and Part-III Examination to be held generally in April month 2013.
