The University of Hyderabad is an most popular public university. It was located in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. Founded in 1974, Prof. Gurbaksh Singh was its first Vice Chancellor.

The University of Hyderabad (UoH), one of the major institutions of higher education in India is largely devoted to postgraduate studies and is widely known for its excellence in research and for its distinguished faculty.

UOH offers Graduated, postgraduate and doctoral degrees. The university was ranked seventh, ahead of the Indian Institute of Science, as published by India Today. University has 46 departments and 11 schools, 400 faculty and 5000 students. It offers 150 programmes of study ranging from doctoral studies to Masters level degrees and also it has an 5-year Integrated Masters Programme.


The Indira Gandhi Memorial Library has 350 000 books and other reference materials, and subscribes to about 600 foreign journals and 18,000 online journals and 10 online databases.

University of Hyderabad Admission 2013-14

Admission to the University is open to all who fulfill the prescribed qualifications without any distinction of race, caste, creed, language or sex. The selection is made strictly on the basis of merit at the entrance examination. 
The Entrance Examinations for various P.G. Degree Courses, are conducted by the Sarojini Naidu School for the admission 2013-14 and  The entrance examination for M.Sc Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, M.Phil., M.Tech. Computational Techniques, IC Technology, Medical Biotechnology, Bio informatics, and Ph.D. will consist of a written test and an interview.

Criteria for Admissions
The following criteria shall be followed, one after the other, to resolve the ties, where candidates secure the same marks in the written test :

(a) First criterion: Marks obtained in Part - A of the question paper.

(b) Second criterion: Division and marks obtained by the candidates in the qualifying degree examination. If the final result is not available then the marks up to the 2nd year will be taken into account.

(c) Third criterion: Division and marks obtained in the degree examination immediately preceding the qualifying degree examination.

(d) Fourth criterion: Division and Marks obtained in the next lower public examination.
